Over the past few years classiccar collectors have been turning their attention to classic trucksand 4x4s, and wonderful factory-built vehicles like this 1956 FordF100 pickup are in significant demand.For consignment, this fabulously restored and lightly rodded rarecatch 1955 example of the Ford F100 pickup bathed in red. Somefresh drivetrain parts including a 302ci Ford mill, all steel, norust, maple bedded, upgraded brakes and other mechanicals and paintas deep as the diving well at the county pool, (do they do thatanymore?). Lawyers, guns, and money have put the kibosh on this"dangerous to snowflakes activities". Call your lawyer so I canhave my freedom of speech taken away!ExteriorA close inspection of this truck, one notes a few flaws in thepassengers front fender and door, but nothing to detract from theoverall beauty. As noted, red paint bathes super straight steelpanels which are very much minding their gaps. We are still in theexterior bulbous fender age connected by the running board era,although as with the rear fender, they are starting to melt intothe actual body. A small body matching running board, with a niftyshiny cloisonne badged foot plate, will guide you into the snazzyinterior. The remaining badging is all there and very nice. Thefront grille, courtesy of a 1956 F100 is completely chromed andlooks like it was just driven off of the showroom floor. So doesthe simple bumper framing the bottom of the grille. On the largecurved downward front hood, complete with front mounted hinges foreasy wrenching access to the mill and its trimmings and bolt ons.All blacked out window surrounds are beautiful as are the chromeexterior mirrors, and handles. Clean and clear glass frames thecabin and through this glass we can see the freshly minted oak bedand chrome mounted ribbed bed which has had nothing in it butstocking covered feet, and has pristine sides to this bed. Ourconsignor notes that this bed is a courtesy of Dennis Carpenter, asis the custom tailgate with an airbrushed Ford logo in the centerand below on the roll pan is a shiny chromed simple bumper withdual exhaust tips peeking out of the bottom. Deep dish AmericanRacing wheels are wrapped in staggered width Cooper raised whiteletter rubber on all 4 corners.InteriorFlip open either of the 2 doors and black vinyl door panels with astitched red insert greet us. These are framed by red painted steelupper and lower sills and have been dressed with shiny cranks andactuators. The original design of the single curved metal dashinstrument cluster houses a semicircular speedo and we note theaddition of a few aftermarket gauges to help keep an eye on enginevitals. A Pilot 3 spoke thick rimmed steering wheel sits atop aFlaming River adjustable column and fronts this shiny and pristineoriginal dash. Clean black carpeting is on the floors and floatingabove is the full bench with a full custom upholstery job. Smoothblack vinyl frames charcoal black broadcloth inserts with some redFord logoing and flames stitched in for good measure. Snappy redpiping sets the seats off perfectly and Im chafing in my shorts toget a chance to sit in this seat for my test drive. Just behind isa large rear glass which bathes the interior with light and enablesthe driver unlimited rear vision. A Lokar shifter lever reaches forthe driver from the black vinyl and red piped console and has asilver knob topper. Just above is a modern Sony AM/FM/CD stereo foryour listening pleasure.DrivetrainFlipping the clamshell hood forward we see a Ford 302ci V8 enginethat our consignor states is from a mid 1990s SVT Ford product. Ithas a mild performance based roller cam installed as well as rollerrockers. It has a polished open air cleaner cover, polished FordRacing valve covers and a nicely showing polished intake topped bya polished 4-barrel carburetor. Ford electronic ignition is now onto help keep the fire lit. On the back is an AOD 4-speed automatictransmission and way back is a Ford 9 inch rear. All is cool withthe new heavy duty Dodge radiator and new water pump. Nice steelheaders sea snake downward to the belly of this beast and melt intoa Flowmaster muffler dual exhaust.UndercarriageA Ford F-100 frame is under this beautiful showroom stamped steelfloor-boarded structure and shows not even a hint of rust. Leafsprings, with new mono-leaf springs in the front, provide the rideand for the stopping, power disc brakes are in front and powerdrums are in back. Clean as a whistle.Drive-AbilityMy partner in crime and I could not wait to dive into this beauty,and it did not disappoint. Stylin would best describe the feelingwhen inside. She fired right up and it was off to the test track.Here she showed us her stuff with snappy acceleration, goodhandling, and awesome stopping power. Inside, a fairly quiet ridethanks to added sound deadener, but outside a great exhaust soundresonates through the valley of our test track. As we slipped offthe track and headed back to the mall, a satisfied look was seen onboth our faces as we were hooked! We noted the horn wouldnt beepand the speedometer tends to bounce around while driving.
